1. Polygon modeling

2. Smooth

3.  Select a polygon mesh
Mesh > Smooth

4.  Polygon components are Vertex, Face, Edge, and UV.

     UV is texture coordinates.Subdiv Proxy.

5.  Select a polygon mesh
Proxy > Subdiv Proxy
A smoothed mesh are generated in the proxy mesh.

6.  When you edit
(transform, rotate, scale the vertices, edges, and extrude, cut faces etc)
the outside polygon (proxy mesh),
the inside polygon (smooth mesh) is similarly edited like being smooth.

1.  Select the polygon object.

Edit Mesh > Append to Polygon Tool

and click the edge.

2.  You click one by one the edge that you want to add the face.

3.  The face is pushed out by operating the manipulator.

When you select two or more faces and do Extrude,

if Edit Mesh > Keep Faces Together is on,

then faces are pushed out together as the above.

4. If Edit Mesh > Keep Faces Together is off,

then faces are individually pushed out as the above.

Have decided to do a second story,  simpler but still explores all the learning points that I need to express in this project.
I will go back to the Alarm Clock before the dead line of this assignment, and hopefully with more experience.

Ist Attempt joints and movement

The Skeleton / Joints and Bones.

In MAYA , a skeleton are created using the joint tool( skeleton). With this tool, you can place a joint into the scence each time you click in a view window. The new joint is automatically parented to a previosly placed joint. This hierarchy of joints is visually indicated in the view window by lines, the bones that connect the joints.Bones point from a joint down the skeleton hierarchy to the next joint.

A three dimensional NURBS surface.
NURBS curve is defined by its order, a set of weighted control points, and a vector. NURBS curves and surfaces are generalizations of both B- Spines and Bezier curves and surfaces,
into two parametric directions, called s and t or u and v.
Polygons are used in computer graphics to compose images that are three dimensional in appearance. Usually triangular, polygons arise when an object's surface is modeled, vertices are selected, and the object is rendered in a wire frame model. This is quicker to display than a shaded model; thus the polygons are a stage in computer animation.
NURBS (Non Uniform Rational Basis Spline)
is a mathematical model commonly used in computer graphics for generating and representing curves and surfaces which offers great flexibility and precision for  freeform shapes.

Two mechanisms have been devised by clockmakers to enable striking clocks to correctly count out the hours.
The earlier, which appeared in the first striking clocks in the 14th century, is called countwheel striking. This uses a wheel that contains notches on its side, spaced by unequal, increasing arc segments. This wheel governs the rotation of the striking train. In the late seventeenth century, rack striking was invented. Rack striking is so called because it is regulated by a rack and snailmechanism. The distance a rack is allowed to fall is determined by a snail-shaped cam, thereby regulating the number of times the bell is allowed to sound.

During the great wave of tower clock building in 14th century Europe, around the time of the invention of the mechanical clock itself, striking clocks were built that struck the bell multiple times, to count out the hours. The clock of the Beata Vergine (later San Gottardo) in Milian, built around 1330, was one of the earliest recorded that struck the hours.I went to this tower a couple of years ago.

The domino effect is a chain reaction that occurs when a small change causes a similar change nearby, which then will
cause another similar change, and so on in Linear sequence.
My domino effect 3D film will be based on an alarm clock and its internal mechanical working parts . This is a linked sequence of events where the time between sucessive events are relatively small

CGI 1 - Basic Modelling and Animation
Using the basic principles of CG animation techniques with basic modelling and animation exercises. In this blog I will covered different aspects of Maya including polygonal extrusions, lathes
and primitives .
With the timeline and keyframes, curves and graph editors in Maya I hope to animate in my final project the internal workings of a clock
